Let downs and getting yourself back up

If someone constantly gives you their word, and yet never follows through, it is your fault for playing fool and believing this time will be different.

If someone offers you something, a certain something that makes your heart melt and then it never happens, it could just be a mistake or a learning curve.  If they do it ad nauseum it’s a character trait and you should take note of it, and decide if you’re willing to accept it and in turn, them.

If someone keeps you hanging week after week, day after day and yet you still remain hopeful ‘today will be different,’ then you my friend must let that thought go.

There is nothing wrong with being a hopeful young being, but it becomes wrong when we aren’t realistic, especially to ourselves.  We complain to girlfriends, two drinks too many in, about being let down, and they likely agree with us that whoever is pulling our proverbial strings is a piece of you know what.  But they aren’t helping you none.  Because it comes down to you.  You are at fault for letting another disappoint you on the regular.  The concern should be surrounding yourself and why you put up with it, and not on the person who is making you feel more lowly than usual.

Whether it is a parent, a partner a sibling or a friend, after plenty of observing, it becomes clear how someone navigates.  I admire those who stay true to their word.  Who don’t share their ‘ideas of’ and ‘dreams’ just because they are in a moment.  Who value what they say and value you enough to follow through on it.  But a character trait is a character trait and hope as you might, it will likely never change.

If you decide to continue keeping this individual in your life, you must not let yourself get too excited when they say what you want to hear.  You must know better than to fall for their words.  You must know that, though they might one day pleasantly surprise you, that history determines the future.
